Fresh & Local

“Fresh and Local” is a show highlighting Kansas City’s art community and benefiting local charities.
Begin the new year by purchasing a work of art from local artists and supporting a good cause.  Twenty-six area artists will be featured in the Fresh and Local group exhibition highlighting the creative fertility of Kansas City and its growing arts community.
Guerilla Curating is a local organization that connects charities, artists and spaces in the Kansas City area to host singular synergistic events. The Fresh and Local show at Room 39 will provide an opportunity for a wide variety of Kansas City’s visual artists to work together, promote their work, and simultaneously benefit local charities.

The Fresh and Local group exhibition will be held by Room 39 and Guerilla Curating. The reception will take place on January 31st at Room 39 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. The show will be available to preview starting January 2nd and will run through the end of February.

Upcoming MIXED BLOOD WOMAN News!!!

I hope that this message finds you all well and in good spirits in spite of the cold weather. Things have been progressing very nicely here in Kansas City and the move has definitely been a blessing. The past few performances went wonderfully well and we now find ourselves in December with good news concerning upcoming events.

Over the past few months I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with lighting designer Ray Robins, videographer Lisa Marie Evans (another UCP studio residency program participant) and visual artist Soumitra Dasgupta on The Little People. A recording of our collaboration will be shown as part of the Paragraph Gallery’s ( 23 East 12th Street, KCMO 64105, 816-221-5115 ) January/February show beginning on the 15th of January , 2010.

In addition to being selected to participate in the above show, MIXED BLOOD WOMAN has been invited to perform at “A Modern Night at the Folly 2010” on February 6, 2010 at the historic Folly Theater, 300 West 12th Street, KCMO 64105-1668, (816) 474-4444.

Lastly, MIXED BLOOD WOMAN will be beginning a new MARIPOSA Empowerment workshop utilizing the choreographic work ACT III as a vehicle of healing. ACT III deals with the stigma attached to survivors of rape. I will be teaching this piece to a group of women and invite anyone interested in participating to contact me directly.

We hope that you all will be able to come out to some of our “goings on” and we look forward to seeing you again.

Take good care and be well,

Maura Michelle Garcia
