Line, Pattern, Repeat will open Friday February 8th from 4:00-6:00pm at the new Warehouse Gallery, 4218 Walnut St., Kansas City, MO 64111. The show will run through Sunday March 3rd. Line, Pattern, Repeat showcases current work from recent Kansas City Art Institute graduates and several Urban Culture Project Residents.

Line, Pattern, Repeat aims to show viewers the inherent connections between current art trends and their fiber process counterparts. A line can be painted, created in space, or a thread pulled through fabric. Many lines together create patterns, both repeatable and abstract. Repetition historically lies at the core of all fiber processes, yet it also plays a starring role in contemporary art through repeated actions and imagery. These works represent the most relevant movements in galleries across Kansas City; yet in the context of the Fiber Department, convey a subtly different notion.

The Warehouse Gallery will host a gallery talk on February 19th from 12:00-1:00pm that will be open to the public.  Some of the artists will be present to speak about their work, as well as the curators to talk about the show’s conception.

UCP Resident Exhibition review in Pitch 2013

Kacico Collaborates!

We have been busy Kacico dancers in 2013!

We are still loving the Charlotte Street Urban Culture Project space downtown, and have been working hard on new choreography for MANY upcoming events!

We got our creative juices flowing in the new year by collaborating with talented UCP residents: musician Hunter Long, and visual artist Bobby. We are all very excited to present the upcoming show on Saturday, February 23rd at the Paragraph Gallery. More info to come on this performance!

Kacico choreographers Holly, Allison, Maggie, Leigh and Katie have been hard at work starting on some new pieces for the upcoming Song and Dance Project. This is a bi-annual show that we have put for several years, featuring original choreography to LIVE music, both covered and originally composed. It is meant for 360 degree settings and smaller venues, such as coffee shops and gallery spaces, but can be adapted for a stage space as well. We plan to perform at KC First Fridays during the spring and summer, and would be open to adding additional performances of this show. We are very excited and honored to be working with the talented musicians of Flannigan’s Right Hook this year, and hope to see all you Irish-music and modern dance lovers at the shows!! I will post more exact dates and times as we know them, closer to the performances.

We love to collaborate with other creative minds, so if you are interested in working with dancers, please don’t hesitate to bring us your ideas! We are very happy to support local artists!
